Standing on the ledge of an abandoned building in the pouring rain. This wasn't her, it couldn't be. The thoughts repeated themselves in her head. Nikki had finally made it into the elite Emergency Services Unit in New York City. It was her job to save people. But here she was, barefoot in the cold rain, ready to jump to her death. Just as she takes the step, she is pulled back onto the ledge by a mysterious man, a person of interest from a previous ESU rescue attempt gone wrong. Her last two memories before blacking out make no sense. She watches the man falling to his death, then she is in his car, looking up at him holding a syringe.

Nikki wakes to find herself seemingly alone in a mansion on a huge estate. She soon realizes it has been almost a year since she was last awake. And that is not the only revelation. Her friends have held her funeral. She is officially dead, she doesn't exist. As she struggles to understand what happened to her world while she was gone, she begins to unravel a mystery with secrets beyond anything she could have imagined.
